ok, this is a brain fart i had last night as i was falling asleep.. growing up jw i somehow developed the belief that women were not made in the image of jehovah, as men were, hence we were inferior to men, and therefore the requirement to be subservient.

it's been so long that i don't know if this was the teaching or my assumption.. counterpoint:.

god created adam in his image.. god then took one of adam's ribs and created eve (sounds more akin to cloning to me, after all it's only one silly chromosome that separates the sexes).. eve was created from adam who was made in god's image.. hence eve is made in god's image.. personally, i think when god made adam, he said "i can do better than that!".

It may make sense historically speaking. I think the reason we as humanity get smarter with each generation is because we learn from the previous generations. The building block thing... It is on that level that I am interested.

As far as I know (not much perhaps), the Jews were the first to worship one god (?) So I am wondering if that is where the goddess symbols were hijacked to become

#1 Male (patriarchy)

#2 Evil

#3 changed

Because, I know that the Northern European peoples were amoungst the last to convert to the idea that goddesses were "bad" and that they were amoungst the last to convert to the patriarchial ways of thought. (Asia excepted).

Sounds like your Mother is "blinded by the light" doesnt it? I am very sorry that you are having to go through these flaming hoops just to have some sort of relationship with your own mom....

You mentioned that you got some comfort from her quick response, and that may be a good sign. Perhaps in her self-imposed exile she will have had time to think and make sense of her own life....One can hope (and my best wishes for you and your mother).

In the meantime, as others have said, surround yourself with those who support you, and care for you. Most of us who have left the jw religion have suffered horrible family losses and consequences. Sometimes our "families" are unchangable and unbending. Sometimes we just have to say, " I tried", and go on with our lives as best we can.

Thanks for that info Pete. I know that in many cultures before and after the ot account, that women were of higher standing religiously speaking. Do you know where the ot writers got the idea from to turn it around? Or was it something they developed on their own?

Yeah, I hear ya. It makes no sense at all when taken literally. It really is a shame that non-sense such as this is still taught and believed in many of todays churches. I had to educate my little girl just recently about this subject after her church tried to teach her this stuff....

Any one got a 440 engine ?

really i am looking for a 440 big block for a 68 dodge charger.

now i have a very tired 383. for those who know engines would it be better to rebuild the 383 or replace it with a 440. i am having a hard time finding a big block motor .
